Ive got to admit when I started this class the topic didn’t really
interest me. My perspective on the going green issue was that it was always
costly. This class allowed me to open up more to the idea and realize that
going green can actually make you money and save you money. One of the topics I
hope to be revisiting and research more in the future is on the construction of
reusable materials. I want to develop real-estate products in the future and
will be looking at reusable and green building materials to save me money. The
last thing I won’t be forgetting is the triple bottom line I love the concept
and will be sticking with me.

Dictionary words
1 Pick TWO words in the green dictionary to define. See if you
can find a video or something interactive that would add to the definition.
Include an active link so the reader can go right to the page
48.
Tragedy of the Commons- is a problem when multiple individuals act independently
and ultimately deplete a shared limited resource.
25. Market Failure: is when there is an inefficient allocation of goods and services on a market.

2 In the Green Dictionary add THREE new concepts or terms about
which you learned from the videos you watched. Make sure to cite!
1 Commons the total amount of credit in society. “http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wXqHSZOg3VA&feature=related”
2 Economic
interventionism is an action taken by a
government in a market economy or market-oriented mixed economy, beyond the basic regulation
of fraud and enforcement of contracts, in an effort to affect its own economy. “http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Economic_interventionism”
3 Renewable
energy is energy which comes from natural resources such as sunlight, wind, rain, tides, and geothermal heat, which are renewable.” http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Renewable_energy”
HR/S.
Based on the reading specifically Role of HR in the new world I agree with them that HR are correlated with organization performance. It is up to HR to establish a culture where there is a sustainability environment in place. It begins with the recruiting you are only as good as the workers that work for you. Its HR job to educate their employees to establish new sustainable practices, it’s not enough for them to just follow the rules but to come to accept and practice it in their own personal lives. I was actually surprised that the correlation between HR and employees was just recently discovered. This is something that should have been noticed long ago.
Privatelayer GREEN?
I currently work at Privatelayer im the director of Marketing
and it is in the hosting industry. Privatelayer provides dedicated servers and
online services to consumers globally. Privatelayer is a business that thrives
on using a lot of energy consumption to have servers on and running 24 hours a
day. Although I have to admit i didnt think you could actually be green in this business once I researched that Private layer is actually
as Green as it can be when it comes to energy consumption and in the field.
In Zurich Switzerland where Private layer hosts about 350
servers all of the latest green initiatives are implemented.
The data center in Zurich Switzerland is called Equinix which
is a global company that rents server space across 38 key
markets in 13 countries and 5 continents. The advantage to using
an Equinix building to host your space is you can start a data center whenever
you want and all of the infrastructure is already there for you. Hosting a room
full of servers requires you to have very technological equipment to help
manage all of the hot air that the servers disburse. Most importantly Equinix
is “committed to improving energy efficiency within a data center industry”. Equnix is also part of many groups like the green grid which is a consortium purely dedicated
to building energy efficient data centers. Equinix employees are part of
the US green building council and the American society of heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning
Engineers (ASHRAE).
They have also been recognized by many organizations and awarded prizes for there green initiatives.
If your interested in knowing all of the green technologies and awards please follow this link http://www.equinix.com/company/about-equinix/green-initiatives/

Carbon Foot Print
You can look at my Carbon foot print in the link below!
http://tinypic.com/r/au6ufr/7
I was surprised considering the global stats below!
Your footprint is 16.88 metric tons per year
The average footprint for people in Panama is 1.78 metric tons
The average worldwide carbon footprint is about 4 metric tons
These results are actually not even including the electricity and bills since i did not know the energy consumption for the house.
So my foot print is actually very high.
Im honestly not very green and im WILLING to
do some stuff to improve like recycling or throwing away garbage in the right places. But i am not willing to modify my life like walk or something that would make things harder to get to or do. I like to be comfortable.
I dont have anything against people that are green crazy and actually i do think it is good that people do it but not for me lol.

Survey
According to www.thehappinesscenter.com/survey/survey.php
I scored 75 on my "life satisfaction survey"
And offered me the following advise.
My life is okay, but not always what I would like it to be. I could use some direction in making my life happier....
Personally im happy with my life, I felt the responses always, sometimes etc were not very good answers and to general and didn't allow me to be able to answer correctly or accurately score. The point system also favored what it considered to be good for an overall 1 type of honest perfect person. What if for me what it calculated as a negative for me was a positive and made me happier?
1 Identify a single area you feel both enhances your life and is in some way connect to our world and nature.
Personally i am not very Green at all and none of the questions allows me to connect to the planet and nature.
2 Think of a personal sustainability practice (PSP) that would improve your life and the life of others even in a small but significant way. Remember if each of us takes a small step it can result in a large change
I think i can start to always throw my trash away in the correct places. There are times were If i don't see a garbage near by i just leave it on the ground. I even kinda feel bad afterwords and i think this is a great way for me to start being more GREEN.
3. Now think about whether or not this is something that is repeatable (is it a one time act or something you can do on a daily basis), is it sustainable and is it something you will enjoy?
This is def something i can repeat weekly and can come to enjoy and feel good about.

Green Washing?
Today i began to caught up on Green business class. I have to say that its pretty interesting to see how many companies around the world practice it. Even more interesting is how many are accused of green washing.
I understand how other people can target companies for green washing but not why they expect for companies to do this for free or not gain something from it. Nothing is ever for free or done just to be nice there is always a cost and if it helps the planet or people or organizations then who cares if they make money off it. I believe it is fair to have a give and take type relationship.
