Final Post =)

Ive got to admit when I started this class the topic didn’t really interest me. My perspective on the going green issue was that it was always costly. This class allowed me to open up more to the idea and realize that going green can actually make you money and save you money. One of the topics I hope to be revisiting and research more in the future is on the construction of reusable materials. I want to develop real-estate products in the future and will be looking at reusable and green building materials to save me money. The last thing I won’t be forgetting is the triple bottom line I love the concept and will be sticking with me.

Choice

Ive decided Going Green is cool butttttt when it comes to business going green I would only do if

1 it saves me money
2 I make money from it =p

Energy Proposal

I turned in my Green Proposal today came out pretty cool lol =p and colorful lol...

I decided to do it on replacing all of the bulbs @ QLU to CFC bulbs to help reduce energy consumption, save on pollution and MONEY!

2 In the Green Dictionary add THREE new concepts or terms about which you learned from the videos you watched. Make sure to cite!

1 Commons the total amount of credit in society. “http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wXqHSZOg3VA&feature=related

2 Economic interventionism is an action taken by a government in a market economy or market-oriented mixed economy, beyond the basic regulation of fraud and enforcement of contracts, in an effort to affect its own economy. “http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Economic_interventionism

3 Renewable energy is energy which comes from natural resources such as sunlight, wind, rain, tides, and geothermal heat, which are renewable.” http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Renewable_energy

HR/S.

Based on the reading specifically Role of HR in the new world I agree with them that HR are correlated with organization performance. It is up to HR to establish a culture where there is a sustainability environment in place. It begins with the recruiting you are only as good as the workers that work for you. Its HR job to educate their employees to establish new sustainable practices, it’s not enough for them to just follow the rules but to come to accept and practice it in their own personal lives. I was actually surprised that the correlation between HR and employees was just recently discovered. This is something that should have been noticed long ago.

Privatelayer GREEN?

I currently work at Privatelayer im the director of Marketing and it is in the hosting industry. Privatelayer provides dedicated servers and online services to consumers globally. Privatelayer is a business that thrives on using a lot of energy consumption to have servers on and running 24 hours a day. Although I have to admit i didnt think you could actually be green in this business once  I researched that Private layer is actually as Green as it can be when it comes to energy consumption and in the field.
In Zurich Switzerland where Private layer hosts about 350 servers all of the latest green initiatives are implemented.
The data center in Zurich Switzerland is called Equinix which is a global company that rents server space across 38 key markets in 13 countries and 5 continents.  The advantage to using an Equinix building to host your space is you can start a data center whenever you want and all of the infrastructure is already there for you. Hosting a room full of servers requires you to have very technological equipment to help manage all of the hot air that the servers disburse. Most importantly Equinix is “committed to improving energy efficiency within a data center industry”. Equnix is also part of many groups like the green grid which is a consortium purely dedicated to building energy efficient data centers. Equinix employees are part of the US green building council and the American society of heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE).
They have also been recognized by many organizations and awarded prizes for there green initiatives
If your interested in knowing all of the green technologies and awards please follow this link http://www.equinix.com/company/about-equinix/green-initiatives/
